DAY 1 - PUERTO NATALES - REFUGIO TORRE CENTRAL - WALK TO THE BASE OF THE TOWERS

The day before you will have a briefing with your guide where you will talk about the adventure of the following days.

After breakfast a semiprivate van will take us with a small group (maximum 12 people) to Torres del Paine National Park. Crossing vast plains, we will arrive at Laguna Amarga, where the guide must register the group with CONAF and continue until we reach the Torre Central Welcome Center and Refuge.

The tour continues through the Ascensio Valley as it winds its way through windswept hills and extensive beech forests. During the final climb, you will pass through a vast field of rocks until you reach one of the most emblematic viewpoints in the world, the Base of the Towers. At an altitude of 900 meters, marvel at the steep granite walls of the Towers (north, centre and south) and below the glacial lake of brilliant turquoise color.

After taking some pictures and having lunch, we will return to the shelter to rest and have dinner.

Feel the wind whistling through the branches and listen carefully to the sound of a Magellanic woodpecker drumming.

We will border the Los Perros River until we ascend a giant moraine where you will be speechless with the picturesque mountain scenery. Surprise yourself with the Los Perros Glacier and the lagoon. We will continue along a rocky path before arriving at Los Perros Campsite, the place where we will spend the night.

Breakfast at the Quincho and Box Lunch retreat. Today we will leave early, around 07:00 am, since it is the most complex day in this adventure through Patagonia. Today we face the John Garner Pass, maximum altitude of the circuit (1,200 m.a.s.l.). Being up there, the wide view will leave you astonished and I will not tell you more, so as not to ruin your surprise when you start to descend.

We will continue through dense forests to arrive directly at the enormous Grey Glacier. On the trail we will be able to appreciate part of the giant Southern Patagonian Ice Field. During the afternoon we continue our adventure with a 5 hour hike that descends to Grey Lake, full of giant chunks of ice and smaller ones that you can use to cool your drinks. However, before we arrive, we will go through a Lenga forest and 2 hanging bridges where there are often beautiful viewpoints of the Glacier.

Location

Parque Torres del Paine

TORRES DEL PAINE NATIONAL PARK

Torres del Paine National Park, located in Southern Patagonia is the Chile’s most famous and most visited tourist attraction. It is definitely one of the most beautiful and unique places on Earth that encompasses magnificent mountains, glaciers, lakes, and rivers, with The Cordillera del Paine as its centerpieceo.

This mountain park lies in a transition area between the Magellanic subpolar forests and the Patagonian Steppes. This unique miracle of nature was formed over 11 million years ago as a result of global tectonic processes and movements of huge masses of ice.

The area of the park is 242 000 hectares, its altitude varies from 200 to 3050 meters above sea level. Most of the park is occupied by the mountain ranges of Torres del Paine (that, as we just learned, means Blue towers) and Cuernos del Paine (Blue horns) with the peaks of Cerro Paine Grande (3050 m) and Cuerno Principal (2600 m) topped by glaciers

The favorable microclimate of this region contributes to the great diversity of flora and fauna. Probably nowhere else in Chile can you see guanacos, rheas, pumas, huemuls, flamingos, kaiken geese, condors and more.

You can move around the park by car, bus or on foot. You can hike for a few days and spend a night in a tent or in shelters in a shared room. There is also a day trip from Puerto Natales by bus, with stops at different places within the park. There are many different tours in the area. You choose. However, if you are looking for something special, less touristy, an authentic experience and to meet the local indigenous people, there is a community tour of Torres del Paine that we offer at Travolution. Don't hesitate to contact us to help you organize a sustainable, tailor-made trip in this magical place.

Come and enjoy a different experience of sustainable and community tourism!
